Over four million people were hospitalized in America as a result of a car accident in 2019, according to the National Safety Council. Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that hundreds of people die each year from drowning after their car crashes into water. But don’t panic — if you have some basic tools and knowledge, you can handle it. Here’s what to do if your car starts sinking.
According to EMTP and StatGear CEO Avi Goldstein, every driver should be taught how to escape a sinking car when it becomes submerged in water.
“Accidents and natural disasters often occur so quickly that it’s essential for drivers to be prepared,” says Goldstein. “In this case, preparation is simply knowing what should be done before it happens.”
